EmmDev 2020-09-22 [Walk between the Lines] A Vision Prayer

A Vision Prayer

The 10th stanza's starting letter is "Yod" which implies a grasping hand, work or the completion of work or a deed.

The Psalmist starts off by seeing himself has created by God's hands.
Then he prays for a number of things:

  • God-fearing (Word-hoping) friendships.
  • That he would learn from the consequences of his mistakes.
    ("your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me".)
  • That God's unfailing love and compassion would accompany him.
  • That the arrogant will be sorted out and not distract him from God's precepts.
  • That he would be able to nurture other God-fearers.

He prays all of this so that his heart would become blameless through God's word and that he would not be put to shame.

This is a prayer to "finish well" and the "grasp" the meaning and purpose of life.

Read the verses below as your prayer today...

Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.
May those who fear you rejoice when they see me,
for I have put my hope in your word.
I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous,
and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
May your unfailing love be my comfort,
according to your promise to your servant.
Let your compassion come to me that I may live,
for your law is my delight.
May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause;
but I will meditate on your precepts.
May those who fear you turn to me,
those who understand your statutes.
May my heart be blameless toward your decrees,
that I may not be put to shame.      (Psalms119:73-80)
